Every Body Matters explores how positively addressing our physical condition can lead to a fortified soul better able to serve and love others. Through confessional and engaging stories of people who intentionally got physically fit as a way to grow spiritually, Thomas draws a fresh, compelling, non-judgmental body/soul correlation.
My Thoughts on this Book:
I can't say enough great things about this book. I honestly couldn't put it down until the end. It's now full of many highlights, underlined words and passages. A wonderful inspiration that will help me become a better Christian. I have been trying to get physically fit for awhile now, losing 25 pounds so far through eating right, and running at least 3 days a week including weight lifting.
When I picked up this book and started reading, it was a boost I needed to keep on. To work harder towards my goal of being physically fit, healthier and stronger. Not just for me and my family but for God. The author says in his book 'The real question is, are my eating habits slowly pulling me away from an intimate walk with God? Is food serving me by providing necessary nutrition, or is it holding me back by gradually making me increasingly insensitive to God's voice and presence?' In this book he shows us why we are here and why being physically fit is so important.
It was truly well written, inspiring and held a true purpose. A purpose to get us off the couch, to become physically active. God called us all to be fit so that we are ready to do His work when needed.
I read it cover to cover in two shorts days and I plan to go back through it chapter by chapter and then answer the questions for each chapter in the back of the book. It really helps you dig deeper in what he says and to apply it to your own life.
He touches on how the Christian church is failing us on not opening up about obesity. Having the church speak up about this topic in a loving way to help our fellow Christian's with weight loss. I believe in a lot of what he says about this. I do struggle with talking one on one with others who are having a difficult time with losing weight. I am not sure if I would be comfortable in embracing someone about this very touchy subject but as a whole church, I think this would be a wonderful series to speak about on Sunday's to open the eyes of the congregation and to maybe bring classes or groups together to help those that are in need of losing weight! He talks a lot about this in his book.
I could quote him throughout this post but I think you should pick up this book and read it for yourself.. I'll leave you with this great quote "Getting fit can be an arduous, even painful process; living fit is filled with much joy."
If you are struggling with weight loss and can't find the motivation, this book will inspire you to a new level!

Based on what you said, I got the book today. I am now on chapter 4 and have had to "force" myself to put it down so I could get things done I need to do around the house :)
ReplyDeleteI already can relate so much to what he has said based on my days of exercise and eating right that went on the wayside when the kids came back into the house...
WOW...what a book...I am done with it for the first time. Definately a book worth repeating and I know I will
ReplyDeleteThanks for including this in your reviews
