Tombstone, AZ
We just finished our vacation in Arizona last Wednesday and wanted to post about our 18 days of adventures. During the first weekend of our trip we took a drive to see Tombstone. I was really shocked at how much of a tourist trap this place is. It's sad. Every building full of history costs lots of $$$$. We decided to just enjoy what we could for free. Not long ago we watched the movie Tombstone so we got a good deal of info on the history of the area and the people they were promoting so it wasn't like we were walking away without knowledge. It was neat to see the cemetary where some of the people we heard of were buried. Boothill Cemetery was free to see!
The O.K. Corral cost money to go in to see where the famous gun fight took place. My hubby saw this when he was here for work last year and told me it wasn't worth the amount of money they were wanting $10.00 a person to see..
The Bird Cage Theater was free just inside the door and we stayed for a few minutes to hear the history of the building and I took a few photos which are below. Then they wanted $28.00 for our family of 5 to tour the building. Since this was used as a bordello we decided not to go in and have to explain that to a 10 yr old..
A bullet hole from back in the late 1800's on the front of the bar.
A cool photo of the stage coach driving by. We wanted to take the stage coach tour but again.. Lots of $$$$$....
These were the 'fake' coffins of the three men killed at the OK Corral gunfight..
Here are my children being silly....
Thought this sign above was very fitting with what is going on the upcoming election.. (Sorry for the little potty mouth on it. I tried to crop it out but couldn't get it done)
Thought this was another cool photo with the stage coach and the saloon in the background..
Hanging with my daughter, getting out of the heated sun for a few minutes..
Here is my hubby at the front door of the gift shop for Boothill Cemetery.. I think he's sad that he can't bring guns here.. hee hee.....
The three men killed at the OK Corral above...
We forgot to see the old church so I'm bummed that we didn't get to see it. All and all we enjoyed walking the town and seeing the cemetery.
