Son's 11th Birthday

Today is my youngest child's birthday. He turned 11. My baby.. Time is flying by and you really notice this when you see how old your youngest becomes. Not so much with your oldest.. Mine is 18 already but today it hit me how fast they are growing up when you see your baby hit 11.. WOW!

He's been studying astronomy for awhile and he's really fascinated with the planets and the solar system so I surprised him with a Solar System themed birthday party. Since his birthday is TODAY, and it's a Saturday, we decided to actually celebrate it today! He had some friends over and had an out of this world experience.. hee hee! YES, I had to go there....

Here's the cake I made for him. It has all nine planets.. (he insists that Pluto is still a planet and I agree) with the sun in the middle and the asteroid belt. I have wire hanging with stars hanging off it.. It has sugar pearls on the side to represent star clusters. We even added some constellations like the Big Dipper, Orion, the Five Sisters and Cassiopeia.

Up close of the sun and you can see the asteroid belt and a few of the planets..
