5K- First Race of 2012

Ran my first race for 2012 on St Patrick's Day. One year ago this was also the first race I'd ever done. They call it the St Patrick's Day Dash. Let's just say, last year I ran the 2 mile race. There was an option to run 2 or 4 miles. Since I only started running three months before this race I clocked in at 28:08.. That's 2 MILES.. I was thrilled I crossed the finish line back then..

This year was a little different. They had someone else putting it together so it was at a different location and it turned into a flat 5K for all.

It was rather brisk that morning so as you can tell above I dressed in layers. I started out with my striped long sleeve shirt. The only thing I could grab that morning because my alarm didn't go off and we got there just 25 minutes before the race started.. phew!!!

My hubby laughed at me after I put on the green shirt we got for doing the race over it.. hee hee! Oh well, wasn't running for fashion...

My goal was to run a 12 minute mile and I did.. I ran it in 38:08 minutes..  I've come a long way in one year. From someone who didn't think I could run unless someone was chasing me to running 6 miles every other day. It really feels good!

Hubby smoked me though. He raced with me but not like last year. Last year he cheered me on by running with me.. This year I was on my own.. He left me in the dust.. He finished the race in 28 minutes.. Someday I will be able to run that fast but my goal right now is to run distance not speed.. He was cute though. As I was coming around to the finish he found me and ran the last couple minutes AGAIN to the finish, cheering me on. There was an OLD man behind me..catching up..if you can picture that. There was NO WAY he was going to pass me so my hubby just kept coaching me to the finish helping me get there. It was awesome..

Next race is called the Icebreaker on April 22nd... This is the biggest race in our town. It weaves through our historic downtown.. It's going to be so much fun. I will be racing in this. You can choose 1 mile run/walk, 3 miles or 5 miles.  I'll be doing the 3 mile. I probably could do the 5 mile but not sure if they would be ok with me taking an hour to get through the course.. (smiles).... I run at about a 5.2 mph pace.. I have to get my forms in asap so I guess I will need to make a decision quickly.. Can't wait..

Kitchen Table Resurfaced

My hubby worked for two weeks to resurface our old kitchen table. We swapped tables with a friend about 2 yrs ago. She needed a smaller table and we wanted a bigger table. Well this table had stains from hot food and drinks. The leaves on the end wouldn't stay in the holders as the holes were bigger than the pegs it went into. And there was a huge annoying crease around the edging of the table where food would be swept into as you cleaned the table and it drove me insane....

We were trying to fix up some things for our get together with some church members. It was our turn to host dinner at our house. This motivated the hubby to get to working on the table.. oh yes!!!

Here's the table in the before stages. You can see the edging has a piece that attaches to the base. That's where the food got trapped. Also note.. the square corners...Hubby has the leaves strapped as he screws them into the base of the table to make this one big permanent structure.

Now the table is all one solid piece and the old finish has been sanded off

Hubby filled in the seam where the food kept going when the table got cleaned off, stained it and coated it w/ polyurethane and now looks brand new. We also purchased a router and hubby gave the table a decorative edging.. It looks fantastic..
All I did was purchase the nice placemats that's on the table and added a new napkin holder and salt/pepper holder.. You know you need new ones when you get a 'new' table.. wink wink!

3 in 30 March Update- Plugging Along

3in30 Challenge

If you'd like to join in on the 3 in 30 Challenge, just click on the banner above to get more info and to link up your goals for the month.

My 3 goals I've been working on are below for March:

1. Organization-
I have been really working on finishing this goal. I am not only giving everything a deep clean, but going through EVERYTHING to see if it stays or goes. Some rooms needed new organizational materials like shelving and totes (office) but the others just needed to be re-organized and things just had to go. My house is looking so nice. I love the simpleness of it and now my house is clean and totally manageable.

Rooms Completed:

*homeschool room
*master bathroom
*master bedroom
*living room
*dining room
*boys' rooms

I am now finishing up my office/craft room and then need to tackle my spare room closet. Then I have successfully re-organized my entire house.. YES!

2. Health-
This was really tough this past week. Went for a run one day and that was the extent of my exercising other than house cleaning. I did go out once and shovel some snow which is the third time I've had to do that this year (sad) since I'm usually out a good dozen or more times by now. I have just been too tired this week to get to the gym or go out to run. It's been very cold outside for one so outdoor running was out and I've been working really hard with all my spare time getting the house in order because we had a dinner party here last night with our church members. So needed all the open spaces tidy and clean. That was a huge task because I was in the middle of my 'remodel' of my things and had to work overtime with my mess..

3. Marriage-
I've been doing well with showing my husband his love language. He's responding really well to the attention.. I really feel our marriage is getting better through this experience and I am also getting more used to showing his language without even thinking about it now. Doing this has spirred on a big deep discussion with the boys about love languages and we spent an entire evening last week writing down our love languages in the order of importance and we were to write down theirs to see if we knew them. It was such a wonderful night..

I'm still working on my once a month date container. After the house is done, that's my first to do project.. and oh how many of those I have.. thanks to Pinterest!! wink wink!

Shepherding a Child's Heart Study

I am really excited about going through "Shepherding a Child's Heart" book with other Moms as a book club online. I did this a month ago with these same ladies reading "How to Have a H.E.A.R.T for Your Kids". I really love this way of reading books, journaling my thoughts on my blog each week..
Here's the schedule of chapters to be read by if you would like to join in as well..
•April 2 – Intro and Ch. 1
•April 9 – Ch. 2-3
•April 16 – Ch. 4-5
•April 23 – Ch. 6-7
•April 30 – Ch. 8-9
•May 7 – Ch. 10-11
•May 14 – Ch. 12-13
•May 21 – Ch. 14-15
•May 28 – Ch. 16-17
•June 4 – Ch. 18-19
I will post each week on the chapters I've read according to the schedule above. I love this kind of study as it helps me absorb more of the reading as I journal it here. If you'd like to join in please check out the blog @ I can't get my blog to interlink because it won't allow me to copy anything lately which is weird. Not sure how to fix that...
So today's post is to introduce myself to those following this book club and to those who happen to come across my blog.. HELLO!!
I am a mother of 3 and a wife to one devoted husband of over 14 yrs. I have a daughter who is 17 and two boys that are 13 and 10. We've been officially homeschooling since 2004, but have been training them in the way they should go since birth. We've moved a bit over our yrs of marriage but we've ultimately made Montana our home back in 2007.
Looking forward to anything that helps me become a better parent and to love my children as they grow up to be responsible adults.. Can't wait to dive in!

Son's 13th Birthday! Doctor Who Anyone?

I had a blast planning and preparing for my son's 13th birthday. I wanted it extra special since you only turn a teenager once.. He loves watching the BBC show 'Doctor Who'. Well this is a British TV show so finding things here in America are well, null and void, so you have to be creative to make a party out of this.

The festivities started with inviting all of his friends to Cyberbytes. It's a local gaming place where you can play their video games per hour. I like it because we can reward my boys by going there on occasion and don't have to purchase the video game systems.

I made a Doctor Who Tardis invitation to send to all his friends.. I posted this on my Creative Cardmaking blog, so that's why it's tagged like that in the photo..

Then the fun begins. Making party favors for the guests. So what's going to go inside?? Yummy food of course. I don't like giving cheap toys to the guests so I thought food would be a great alternative.

I made a dalek brownie out of a cookie cutter that my husband shaped into a Dalek. It was originally shaped like santa holding his hand out!.. If you don't know what a dalek is, they are bad guys or should I say robots in the show.. "Exterminate"...

Then came the Jammie Dodgers.. Cookies that the 11th Doctor loved.. These are two sugar cookies with the top cookie cut out in the middle with a small heart cookie cutter. The middle is filled w/ raspberry jelly and then stuck together!.. YUM!

Made some cute one eyed daleks to eat as well. I got this idea from online. I tweaked it though to fit what I had on hand for supplies. It's an oreo cookie base, then the ball is a chocolate chip muffin with the stump cut off. I then frosted the top of the oreo cookie to act as 'glue' to hold the muffin to the oreo. I then dipped the muffin (not the oreo cookie) into melted chocolate as well as a pretzel rod which will represent the arm and let it set. While it was setting I put the arm in and almonds on top and let it harden. The eye is a candy I found at Walmart in the cake decorating aisle.

Designed the gift bags to look like the tardis..

I made my son a Tardis bday card..

The inside had his favorite doctor..

I decided to make three cupcake daleks to go around the cake. I found a video online by the Tofu Guru that showed step by step how to make the cupcake daleks.. The cake is the tardis sitting on a planet..

One of the daleks...

The cake.... This is of my own invention in my head.. I really wanted it to stand up and not lie down like I saw examples of online. I am so happy it turned out the way I wanted it to!

This picture below did have my son's name written on it but I whited it out for this post.. This is with all 13 of his candles on it during the party!

I went a little crazy and made the cake on the inside to match the British flag colors. The tardis was blue..

And the planet was two layered. White and red..

The entire cake was supposed to be made of marshmallow fondant. I was successful in placing the fondant on the planet but it was just too heavy to drape over the tardis so I ended up having to frost that part..

This Happy 13th Bday was on the table...

I picked out star balloons since the Doctor travels in space.. They're 13 of them! Behind the balloons is the table with the cake and food since it was in the evening we had pizza, smokies, and chips..

Here's the birthday boy with his cake!

Blowing out the candles!

My friends and I after the party was over..

All the kiddos after the party was over..

My son had a blast playing video games with his friends for two full hours, then opening presents, & eating cake.. I just can't get over that my baby boy is 13 now!! WOW!!!

3 in 30 March Update-Mid Month

3in30 Challenge

If you'd like to join in on the 3 in 30 Challenge, just click on the banner above to get more info and to link up your goals for the month.

My 3 goals I've been working on are below for March:

1. Organization- My goal this month was to re-organize my house. I am on way to success. I am completing the office/craft room today. My homeschool room is all done. I plan to take some pictures of my room makeovers and get them posted sometime this week! It's looking good!! My goal this coming week is to make sure the kitchen cabinets/drawers are organized, and then tackle the kids closets..

2. Health- My goal this month was to workout 5 days a week and this week I reached that goal.. I worked out Sunday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and today! I ran 6 miles on Sunday, worked out at the gym on Wednesday and Friday and Thursday I ran 5 miles. Today I ran a 5K race with my hubby.. I want to continue to workout 5 days next week as I'd like to continue to see the scale go down. I have 14 more pounds to lose and am looking forward to toning up some more!

3. Marriage- Still working on loving my husband with his love language. I am already seeing a huge improvement in our relationship and how he interacts with me.. I'm lovin' it!

Happy 13th Birthday To My Son!

Today my baby boy turns 13.. Yes, he will always be my baby boy.. I just can't get over how quickly time has gone by. I gave birth to a beautiful 7lb baby 13 yrs ago. Now he's a teenager and almost as tall as me.... I can't begin to tell you how proud I am of him. He is growing into such a wonderful man.

He had his birthday party back on Saturday.. I will post all the pictures of that hopefully tomorrow if I can get some free time. He had a Doctor Who themed party. It was after the British BBC Network TV series.. I had a blast putting this party together and looking forward to sharing all the pics of it. DS13 totally loved it!! I can't get over that he has now moved from DS12 to DS13..

Happy 13th Birthday! I love you always and forever!!

3 in 30 March Challenge Update

3in30 Challenge

If you'd like to join in on the 3 in 30 Challenge, just click on the banner above to get more info and to link up your goals for the month.

My 3 goals I've been working on are below for March:

1. Organization- I am in the middle of a huge re-organization of my office/craft room. I am making progress. I purchased all the bins/containers and put them where I need them to go. Bought a couple shelves and the containers to go into each cubby and it's all assembled but had to stop to prepare for my son's 13th bday on Saturday so I will be finishing this room up on Sunday. I am moving along nicely since this is the room that needed the most work because it was ending up being the catch all room.

2. Health- my goal on the health spectrum was to exercise 5 days a week. 3 times at the gym and two at home either video or running outside. I made it once to the gym this week and I ran 6.25 miles outside yesterday. Not what I wanted to see but with my son's bday party coming up tomorrow I have been consumed with party favors, making a cake and then re-organizing the house that I couldn't spare the time to get to the gym. I know next week will be much easier as I don't have to take my son to a hunter safety course three days in a week in the evenings and that also has thrown me for a loop because I am not used to leaving the house for two hours, three nights a week. Plus I have a sofa that we are trying to sell sitting in my living room making it pretty much impossible right now to do any exercise videos because I have no where to move around until this sofa sells.. ugh!

3. Marriage- didn't get to my date night box to make yet since I have been overly busy like I explained above but I have been showing my hubby his love language each and everyday.. I am really enjoying this, which is awesome because his love language is literally the opposite of mine so I have to work at it daily and it is really strengthening our marriage and our friendship..

Half Way Point

Yep, I am officially at the half way point to my ultimate weight loss goal.. I have lost 27 lbs and now have 27 lbs to go.. That sounds like a lot doesn't it. I started at 174 lbs. That's correct. A size 14. I have slowly shed some weight and now I am at 147 lbs. I am very happy at the weight I am now. I am a comfortable size 10 and they are starting to get loose so a size 8 is just around the corner.. Oh ya! But this is NOT where I want to be.
I keep telling myself that I am older now, there is no way I can get down to what I was in high school.. Well, why can't I? What is truly stopping me from weighing 12o? My mind!! That's what! I know that muscle weighs more than fat so I am noticing now that I've lost the weight I have that I look thinner than I did back in 2004 when I weighed 147. Because back then I was only walking away my weight. Today, I am running, working out, weight lifting, plus I am eating better. No fast food, caffeine, soda or processed food! (Took away soda/fast food back in 2005, caffeine & processed food back in Nov 2010) So there is muscle now. So let's just say that I want to get down to 130 and re-evaluate my goals but ultimately I would really LOVE to see 120!

One pound, one day at a time. I don't want to be skinny. I want to be fit. There is a huge difference to me. There is a LOT of skinny woman out there that are NOT fit.. I don't want to be one of them. I want to be able to run a half marathon by the end of the year and a full marathon in 2013. I've gotten myself up to 6.4 miles so far.. My first 10K last week. This is from a person that hated running and decided to give it a try because I was walking so fast that running was easier back in December 2010. Now I can't see my life without running in it! Isn't that amazing!!

I am now tracking my food online. I was putting it down in a spiral bound notebook since September 2011 and about three weeks ago I found and now use that. It's free, I am able to type in what I ate and it's always on the list. Only a couple so far have I needed to type it in. It also keeps track of my water intake, and my exercise each day. You put in your weight, and age plus your weightloss goal and it will tell you how much to eat each day. It's awesome!

Well that is my weightloss, fitness update since I haven't posted about it in awhile..

3 in 30 Challenge February Wrap Up & March Goals

3in30 Challenge

I am just shocked at how quickly time is flying. I just feel like I wrote down my goals for February a couple days ago and now I am pinning my last post on this month.

Well it went better than I thought. I wasn't doing well with my first two goals.. The first being cut back on the sweets. I did though.. I am happy to say that I am continuing to eat it in moderation and not stress over it like I did at the first of the month. The weight is coming off, my calorie content is where it should be so I am happy with the results.

My second goal was to do more cardmaking. 5 cards a week and get my Christmas card started. Needed my starter card completed. Didn't get to that. I did make about 6 cards plus I just finished my son's invitation for his 13th bday. So I guess that wasn't to bad..

My last goal for February was to spend quality time with my boys each week. I have had a fabulous time having this as my goal. It's actually been a goal for both January and February. I really wanted to make a solid foundation of this goal and needed more than a four weeks. I am very happy with the results of this. My boys love the time I spend with them. The yelling has diminished.. Praise God! They also seem so much happier knowing they will get that time with me each week.

So on to March goals..

1. Organization- right now I am in over my head with re-organizing my house. I guess I went hog wild on Pinterest with all the neat ideas you can find on organization. Well I have found some great pins that I have that will work for my house as far as organization. I've purchased everything, now I want to spend this month getting it all put together. This includes, cleaning out ALL the closets, drawers, cabinets.. Getting rid of things I don't need or have not touched since my last deep clean. Sell what I can, and donate what I can't. As I go through everything it will get a deep scrubbing!

2. Health- I am on my way to a healthy weight. I've lost 28lbs so far but would like to lose more. I would ideally like to reach 120 lbs. I know I can't reach that in one month but I want to get closer to it. I am currently at 147 lbs, so 27 lbs to go. So to make this weight goal a reality I would like to spend a minimum of 5 days a week exercising. 3 days a week at the gym and two days either videos, workout routines or running outside. I feel like I need to write this down and be accountable for it. I will continue with my February goal in being mindful of sweets. If I don't make them, I won't eat them!! Since I don't buy packaged food that is my safest bet!

3. Marriage- I would like to add a goal for my marriage. I would like to get my date night packages completed so we can have a once a month date night. I would like to go on a date this month with hubby by the end of the month as well. I also have a project that I have all the supplies for and now need to put it together so I can give it to my husband. I would like to have that finished by the end of the month! I would also like to work on my husband's love language each day for the entire month. I want him to know that he is the best thing that has ever happened to me and showing his love language will hopefully show him how much I love and cherish him...

So there's my March goals...
